  • Five Reasons why you should choose RuneScape over other free MMORPG games.

1 – It’s the most popular MMORPG in the world

RuneScape, as Jagex humbly claims, is the ‘ Number 1 Free Multiplayer Game ‘. It is probably the only game that every single person who’s at least a bit interested in RPG games knows about. And, as we know, popularity draws a lot of attention, meaning that RuneScape has a very large community. Of course, high popularity has some negative effects, too. That’s why botters and other types of cheaters are almost an everyday sight in RuneScape. That doesn’t really affect game-play much – only at the lower levels, maybe.

2 – There’s always something to do in RuneScape

RuneScape has a lot of events – for every season celebration (Christmas, Easter, etc). There’s also some bonus events – some of them in the forums, some in-game (these are mostly members-only). Even when no events are happening, you can still find a lot of what to do – you could be a merchant (sell or buy items) and make money, have a party (Falador party room), play mini-games with your friends or other people, and much, MUCH more.

    3 – There’s no classes in RuneScape

Unlike almost every other RPG game, RuneScape doesn’t have classes – the same person can be a melee warrior, an adept magician, and a skilled archer all in the same. This makes combat in RuneScape highly flexible – you never know when an enemy will drop his sword and cast a deadly fire blast on you. I think that this is one of the main things that separates RuneScape from other games of similar genres.

4 – There are a lot of combat skills in RuneScape

RuneScape has three ‘ main ‘ combat skills: melee, ranged, magic. Melee is also separated into 3 ‘ side skills ‘: Attack (the chance of hitting an enemy), Strength (the damage caused by successful attacks), Defense (the chance to evade someone else’s attacks). This is another interesting feature of RuneScape – you must use a skill to level it up. When you fight, every single point of damage caused by you will be calculated towards your EXP. Even your character’s level (or ‘ combat level ‘) is calculated according to the level of your combat skills. There are also other skills (for P2P users) that aren’t directly associated with combat, but still increase your character’s level. Basically, the combat is extremely well-designed.

5 – There are even more non-combat skills in RuneScape

Aside from the awesome combat skills, RuneScape also has many non-combat skills. That includes crafting, blacksmithing, fletching, etc. You can make almost anything that you use in the game by crafting skills. Which means that, while playing RuneScape, you won’t spend all of your time fighting things. Actually, you might as well spend more time ‘ working ‘ than fighting. On the other hand, crafting skills are highly limited for free players, but it’s your choice whether you choose to pay or not. Hope these reason can help you to know much more abou the Runescape and want to play Runescape more ofen!

  • To say that Trekkies have been waiting a long time for a really, really good “triple A” game based on the Star Trek license would be an understatement. In recent years, the games that have come closest to taking advantage of the source material were the Elite Force series. They were first person shooters and competent games that were fun, but Star Trek has never been about the action. No, Star Trek is about exploring the unknown, discovering new life and new civilizations.

You don’t have to be a genius to guess that the genre that best fits the Star Trek franchise mold is a role-playing game. The idea of a fully functioning, massively multiplayer online RPG to Trekkies has been the stuff of dreams and thanks to Cryptic, now a reality. Sounds great, right? Well…it should have been.

Star Trek Online is by no means a bad game. It’s actually pretty fun and in many ways the developers have bent over backwards to include little winks, nods and Easter eggs for diehard fans of the various movies and TV shows. And yet, things are lacking. . . why?

Simple diplomacy just doesn’t work.  And disappointedly diplomacy is one of the things that separates Trek from other more trigger happy forms of sci-fi.

While it’s true Captain James T. Kirk was just as likely to shoot you as shag you, his contemporaries, from the unflappable Jean Luc Picard, all the way through Janeway, Cisco and Archer, generally erred on the side of diplomacy. So why is it then that the diplomatic missions in Star Trek Online suck so hard?

The first diplomatic mission you’re likely to encounter has you running up to unhappy employees on a mining planet. After clicking through their dialogue to hear their complaints you return to the quest giver who asks you what the grievances were. It’s the stuff sleeping pills are made of, and sadly, these missions don’t get much better as the story progresses.

It’s true that diplomatic gameplay might not be for everyone, but you have to wonder why the quest designers didn’t think of better ways of implementing diplomatic sections into the multi-part story based quests. How about beaming down to a planet to stop a Klingon attack, fight for a bit, call a temporary truce and then broker a temporary alliance with the Klingon commander? Succeed and you have a temporary ally Fail and it’s back to the combat.

It’s made even worse when Trekkies look across the pond at the next big franchise MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and witness the care being taken by Bioware in offering players freedom and choice in decision-making and controlling dialogue.  This is the type of freedom that would make absolute sense in a Star Trek game.

While we’re on the subject of Star Wars: The Old Republic, it’s worth noting that this game will have player housing in the form of player owned ship interiors. . . at launch. Ask anyone who plays STO about it and they’ll tell you that Cryptic’s bizarre decision not to let you explore the inside of your ship was a massive faux pas. You’ve spent all this STO gold on a shiny new Science Vessel and you can’t even admire the finish. It’s like plonking down all your WoW gold on a new epic mount and then being restricted to viewing it only from the back side. . . in other words, lame!

Granted, Cryptic quickly realized the error of their ways and have promised that in the coming months we will see ship interiors make an appearance. But there’s no getting around the fact that they should have been there at launch.

The final major mistake Cryptic has made is the distinct lack of fun public places. While Earth Station One is technically a public space, it’s really thought of as more of a mission hub. The lone cantina is almost always completely empty, populated by only a few lonely looking NPC’s or a weird Vulcan who’s decided  dancing on top of tables is absolutely hilarious and totally within character. It’s not.

Outside of Earth Station One, there’s Quark’s Bar (which is an admittedly lively – and pretty awesome – hang out spot) and the thoroughly depressing Risa. Risa, the fabled pleasure planet from Trek lore, is thought to be one of the most incredible vacation spots in the entire galaxy. A true paradise. Sadly, its appearance in Star Trek Online is unlikely to be remembered at all. There’s simply nothing to do there, and I mean that quite literally. You can sit in a beach chair or do Tae Bo on a cliff side, but that’s it. You almost feel sorry for the automaton NPC’s who seem to be trapped on this tropical island limbo.

The last thing I’d like to touch on is that exploration is simply not fun in Star Trek Online. You can explore the vastness of space, true, but coming across an “anomaly” generally means right clicking, scanning and then filing it away in your inventory to be taken to the out-of-the-way Memory Alpha. Exploring planet surfaces themselves is no more interesting. NPC dialogue is painfully bland and the environments start to look painfully uninspiring.

The reason folks play MMO’s is to have fun, it’s that simple. They come for the fun but stay for the company. If STO really wants to build up a loyal subscriber base it needs to engender a sense of community.  Trekkies tend to do that naturally but the stale state of the game is not helping matters. Changes need to be made and while adding new content and missions are a step in the right direction, there needs to be more. It’s the little things that Cryptic is failing to deliver on: community, atmosphere and immersion. The gameplay’s fine, Cryptic, but all the STO gold in the world won’t fix a crappy bar. . . it might get you a nice ship interior though…even if currently, you’re unable to see it!  Beam me to another game, Scottie.

  • An African Safari is the vacation of a lifetime. Make sure you choose your tour company wisely as there is a lot of difference between tour operators. Looking for great value? Ask a travel agent to keep an eye out for African Safari special offers to find exclusive tours at unbeatable prices. Or if you have some extra time, surf the internet for a few weeks before booking so that you get a good idea of the tours being offered. Safaris, aside from the airfare, are not much more expensive than other guided tours unless you take the luxury option, and it’s bound to be an unforgettable vacation. Safaris to the Kruger Park, which is roughly the size of a small country, are always popular. This area of Africa has seen human habitation for roughly 40,000 years. Indigenous populations coexisted in balance with the local game, but after Europeans arrived and began to hunt for trophies, game populations declined drastically due to the uncontrolled slaughter despite hunting laws introduced to South Africa in 1858. The area first became protected in 1989, just before the Boer War, after a campaign by Paul Kruger to establish the Sabi game reserve between the Sabi and Crocodile rivers. After the Boer War ended in 1902, the James Stevenson-Hamilton was appointed warden of the Sabi Game Reserve, and formal protection and rebuilding of game stocks was instituted. Stevenson-Hamilton became determined to protect the area permanently by making it a national park. After much lobbying, he succeeded. The national parks act was passed in 1926 and the Sabi and Singwitsi reserves (by then the Transvaal Game Reserve) became the Kruger National Park. It took a few years before visitors discovered the park. In 1927, a total of 3 tourist vehicles ventured into the park, bringing in an income of 3 pounds. By 1930, there were 900 vehicles roaming on the 500 kilometres of new roads in the park, and staying in the huts and tents that could accommodate up to 700 people. Stevenson-Hamilton was an outdoorsman who disapproved of luxurious facilities, and he attempted to maintain a rustic atmosphere. However, when he left, accommodations were upgraded and the park became a reknowned destination for tourists from all around the world. By 1955, visitors flocked to the park in numbers exceeded 10,000 a year, prompting extensive development of roads and tourist services along with the fencing of the park boundaries. During peak holiday season, such as Christmas, Easter and July, the park can be quite crowded. There is now a daily limit to number of visitors, so if you must travel in peak season, reserve well ahead of time. Adjacent to the Kruger on its Western Boundary are a number of private game reserves, including the Sabi Sand, Timbavati and Manyeleti. Kruger Park Safaris offer a huge variety and density of wildlife, as well as a wide range of safari experiences. You’ll never be able to see the whole park in just one tour. Safaris include everything from tented walking safaris and self-driving safaris to ultra-luxurious fly-in safaris. Kruger Park holds hundreds of lodges for different tastes and budgets. The Kruger Park is a year-round destination, but there is a seasonal difference in climate. The dry season (winter) is usually between May and August, although rainfall starts declining in April and is still fairly low in September and October. This is the best season to see game, as permanent waterholes attract animals, the vegetation becomes thinned out, and trees have fewer leaves to obstruct the view. Winter has warm days and chilly nights. The average maximum temperatures is around 24 degrees in winter, and the average minimum is about 8 or 9 degrees, although it can drop as far as 5 degrees. It is important to bring along a warm jacket for early morning and evening game tours. The wet season (summer), is from November to March. This is when the Kruger Park receives most of its rainfall, usually in dramatic afternoon thundershowers. The weather is hot and balmy, with Average maximum temperatures of about 30 degrees Celcius, with an average minimum of 20 degrees. The summer grass and foliage becomes lush and green, and while this makes for beautiful scenery, it can also make game viewing difficult. Also, animals no longer concentrate around waterholes because there are now widespread sources of water. However, for birdwatchers, the wet season is the ideal time to visit the Kruger Park, as this is when the migrating birds arrive, and when all the local birds are at their most active. The Makuleke region of the park is renowned for its many species of birds, and visitors may see exotic specimens such as Scarlet Chested Sunbirds, Broadbilled Rollers, Redheaded Weavers, Wattle-eyed Flycatchers and owls, such as the Pels Fishing Owl, the Scops, Whitefaced, Pearl-Spotted and Giant Eagle Owls. The wet season is also the best time to see baby animals, as most animals calve at the beginning of the rainy season to take advantage of the lush grazing grounds. Luxury resorts in and around the Kruger Park are not cheap, but offer services such as massages, reflexology and room service for guests who like to remain within the bounds of civilization while still having an opportunity to take day tours and see game. Overland Safaris in a tour group are the most economical way to see Kruger Park. These group tours are a great way to meet like-minded eco-tourists and enjoy a genuine outdoor experience. Both camping and hotel options are available. The bush of the Kruger Park can also be experienced on hiking tours. These walks are conducted in parts of the region not accessible to vehicles, including the spectacular Lanner Gorge.

  • There are many benefits to shopping as a family. First of all, it is a great way for family members to bond, while having fun at the same time. Even if some of the family members don’t particularly enjoy shopping, they will be more likely to view it as an entertaining adventure than a task, if they’re with their loved ones. Families can try on clothes together, as they assist each other in choosing fashionable outfits. Other people are better able to see exactly how someone else looks in an outfit, and can offer their opinions, which can help save time and money.
Family members can also participate in other activities together while shopping, especially when choosing a mall as a place to shop. Many malls have video game arcades, movie theatres, and varied special events, such as crafts shows, contests, health fairs, etc. Most malls also have holiday-related activities, such as meals and photos with Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, Easter-egg hunts, trick-or-treating and much more, depending on the mall.
Dining out is one major thing that families do together while shopping. They will certainly work up appetites from all the walking required to shop. Malls are notorious for having family-oriented ‘eateries,’ which consist of large designated dining areas and several restaurants surrounding the dining area. The restaurants vary from Chinese to hamburgers, in case everyone doesn’t want to eat the same thing.
Lots of large and popular shopping centers also have some pretty elaborate restaurants, as well. This is good if a family chooses to eat at a fancy, sit-down restaurant instead of at the fast food joints that are usually available at the eateries.
Families don’t have to shop together on a regular basis in order to bond. They can plan special days throughout the year to go on mall outings together. It can be something that everyone looks forward to.
Shopping together as a family is also a great way to save time. If everyone is together on one outing to the store, then everyone can get what they need at the same time. There is no need to make multiple trips to the same store or waste gas needlessly.
Even if families don’t choose to shop together at malls, shopping can still be an exciting experience for everyone involved. Wal-Mart, Target, etc. can still be fun places to go with your family. Simply being together and spending quality time with loved ones can make any shopping expenditure extra special, no matter where they go.

Glitch, a Flash-based MMO from the Flickr Guys,  is a blissful 2D flash-based MMO that’s playable from your browser. The game looks pretty interesting in all its side-scrolling glory. In this world, you get to explore the minds of eleven great giants on a barren asteroid who sing and think and hum the world into existence.

    25, Maiden Desmodus

Maiden Desmodus is a flash-based browser RPG published by The Binary Forge. Unlike graphical games which leave little to the imagination, text-based gaming allows a level of immersion not found in other platforms. The enviroment of Maiden Desmodus is much like an interactive fantasy adventure novel in which your character can move freely between chapters. Our descriptive interactive environment is continuous and persistent, which means that your actions, or inaction, can directly affect the plot and lives of fellow players.

  • Ask any teenager today the number of hours they spend in front of their computer playing video games and the answer will surely startle you. Nowadays, youngsters spend a huge amount of time playing video games, thereby turning gaming into a mainstream industry. There are different genres of video games, each having its own fan following. Each year, gamers of each genre wait with bated breath for their favorite games to be released.

Some of the popular video game genres include the Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game or MMORPG, the First Person Shooters or FPS, Arcade games like racing, simulation games and many more. There are certain other genres of games as well and these include the action and adventure, role-playing, real time strategy and third person shooter games. Each and every genre has their own set of sub categories.

First person shooter games require the player to play as if they are experiencing the game through their own eyes. Some of the other types of games include the flight simulation games where the gamer has to play the role of a pilot and the entire screen feels like the cockpit of an actual aeroplane. There are certain Real Time Strategy games where the players are given command of a certain map and they have to gather resources to build colonies, empires and fight wars.

The arcade racing games place the gamers at the driver’s seat and allow them to compete with the fanciest cars of the world along with the best 3D rendering of the gaming environment. A massively popular genre of games includes the MMORPG where players from all over the world come together and play the game live, thanks to their Internet connections. The opportunity of playing with an actual person rather than the Artificial Intelligence of the game makes these MMORPG so famous.

  • The DS has seen no shortage of role playing games, action role playing games, or strategy role playing games over the years. No, quite the contrary, as the system is starting to become the ideal place for niche gaming and 100 hour RPG classics, getting right up there with PS2 as a home for all things niche, traditional, and hardcore.

Download Devil Survivor and More than 300,000 DSi Games From Nintendo DSi Center!

Leave it to good old Atlus to give us another one with Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor. For those down with the hip Atlus offerings across all platforms, Devil Survivor is yet another game in the long-running Shin Megami Tensei (or SMT) series, while for us little ol’ DS owners it feels brand new. What is Shin Megami Tensei, and should you care that it’s finally made its way out of Japan and onto your DS? I encourage you to read on and find out. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor isn’t a game I see topping sales charts or flying off shelves this year, and really that’s unfortunate; it should be. Blending a mix of classic strategy RPG gaming with first-person traditional role playing battles and a demon collection system that feels like a ramped up version of Pokemon or Dragon Warrior Monsters, Devil Survivor is easily ranked amongst the top tier of each of its respective genres.

There are certainly things I’d like to see improved upon – there’s no online or wireless functionality (a pity, since the game has a virtual auction system), most of the art is pretty static or low-frame, and the effects aren’t much to look at – but the core offering is one that could, and should, keep hardcore RPG fans busy for dozens of hours.

There are few games I review where I immediately want to go back and play them over again, and in the last month alone Atlus has been responsible for two of them. Devil Survivor blends a gripping story with fresh gameplay concepts and a whole lot of depth, all of which fuse together to create one of the best RPGs of the year thus far. Hopefully this is just the beginning of Atlus’s DS support for the Shin Megami Tensei series.

  • Gift baskets are always popular and a great idea to give as a gift whether for Mother’s Day or any other time of the year. Moms love to receive gift baskets. Making your own gourmet ‘mom’ gift basket is cheap and easy. You can fill your gift basket with a variety of inexpensive quality items; you have lots of choices.
I’ve put together a few great tips and ideas for making ‘mom’ gift baskets, complete with instructions on how to make them. You can make inexpensive gift baskets or expensive gift baskets depending on your budget. You can easily customize each basket to your recipient.
First make a list of the mom’s hobbies and interests. List everything you can think of that might possibly pertain.
Suggestions: sports, books, television shows, in-house hobbies, outdoor recreation, camping, workshop, tools, golf, fishing, computer-related, environment friendly, golf, tennis, relaxation, food, chocolate, wine, spa, bath and body, fruit, cookie, etc. These are just a few ideas.
You can find many inexpensive items and products for use in making your gift baskets or filling your gift baskets, at ‘dollar’ stores, craft stores, party stores, discount outlets, flea markets, close-out stores and even at garage sales providing the items are new, etc.
For gift containers you can use: any type of basket, wicker basket, straw basket, bucket, laundry basket, plastic container, purse, tin, seasonal container, large tea pot, large upside-down hat, red hat or plastic storage container-put lid underneath.
Other items: extra-large coffee mug, boot, potted plant holder, wire basket, large pasta bowl, large popcorn bowl, cooking pot, clay pot, colander, skillet, antique trunk, champagne bucket, hamper, Asian-style trunk or picnic basket.
For gift basket liner you can use: tissue paper, shredded paper, shredded newspaper, tea towels, dish towels, hand towels, kitchen towels, colored towels, colored napkins, placemats, or fabric pieces.
For gift basket filler you can use: shredded colored paper, straw, Easter basket grass, crumpled newspaper comics, a bed of wrapped chocolates or other wrapped candy.
For items in the container it’ll depend on the specialty or theme of the gift basket – in this case a mom. Here is a small random sampling to give you a few good ideas:
Gift certificate for massage or spa visit, scented oils, scented massage oils, gift certificate to favorite store, gift certificate for restaurant, loofah, fragrant candle, matches to light candles, CD of nature sounds, favorite artist CD, DVD of newer release movie, how-to video or CD, handwritten poem, perfume, cologne, watch, framed photo, inspirational book, spa pillows, bath pillows, spa supplies, bath and body products, facial and body scrubs, handmade soaps, fragrant soaps, shampoos, hand and foot lotion or fluffy towel.
Flavored teas, green tea, specialty tea, herbal tea, biscotti, tea infuser, healthy snacks, fancy chocolates, boxed chocolates, chocolate bars, hot chocolate mix, specialty coffee mix, homemade cookies, homemade brownies, homemade jams, popcorn, caramel corn, giant-size boxed candy, candy canes, suckers, lollipops, apple, pear, orange, persimmon, mango, papaya, chips, pretzels, nuts, gourmet pasta, gourmet olive oil, pre-packaged food items, pancake mixes, brownie mixes, cookie mixes, wooden spoons, your best chocolate chip cookie recipe, Italian recipes, Mexican food recipes or other ethnic recipes, coffee mug, or potholders.
Garden trowel or other garden tools, garden gloves, work gloves, cold weather gloves, leather gloves, garden picks, seeds, hand lotion, flower pot , small tools, gadgets, playing cards, travel-size games, small puzzles, t-shirt, tickets to events,
small plant, disposable camera, a small book,
Computer-related items, mouse pad, yarn, painting or artist supplies, golf balls, golf tees, golf knick knacks, tennis balls, tennis knick knacks, key chains, small calendars or desk calendars, barometer, outdoor thermometer, science gadgets, electronic gadgets, health-related items, auto-related items or cinnamon sticks.
For gift basket wrapping you can use tulle netting or better yet, cellophane wrap. If you’re going to use a lot of cellophane you can purchase it in large rolls wholesale through the packaging specialty stores throughout the U. S. but should be easily found in craft stores.
Tie off the wrapped basket with ribbon. Wired fabric ribbon is best if you have it.
For bows: You can use pre-packaged bows but making your own bow is easy and a better presentation if you can do it. Use a huge beautiful bow.
Assemble all your gift basket items, the tools you need, etc. Now line your selected gift container. Then stuff the selected filler into the gift basket to give added height to your items. Place, layer and arrange your selected items on the filler in the gift container. Put the larger items in the back, the smaller items in front.
Fill in the holes or prop up with more filler (shredded paper, Easter basket grass, wrapped chocolates, napkins or holiday napkins etc. )
Also you can use ‘picks’ of artificial flowers to fill in small open spots.
Place your cellophane or other wrap under the gift basket. Center the gift basket on the wrap. Bring the cellophane or other wrap over the top of the gift basket and tie it with ribbon and/or a beautiful bow! Use ribbon and bows to match your theme colors.
Tuck a personalized card in the ribbon and that’s it!
General tips: You can find fabric or wired ribbon cheaply at Costco — especially in the fall prior to Christmas or around holidays but often throughout the year in most stores. You can shred colored paper in a paper shredder.
Try to use non-perishable items except, of course, when making fruit baskets. Use freshly packaged food items; packaged crackers and cookies can go stale in a couple of months.
You can find filler flower ‘picks’ at garage sales cheaply. If you buy ‘picks’ wholesale they are usually around a dollar each.
Try not to mix chocolate or other food fragrant items with non-food fragrant items in the same basket.
Also there’s nothing like learning how to make gift baskets from a video or DVD for making cheap and easy gift baskets. You can view it over and over again and share it with your children, other family members and friends. You can even charge for classes with your new-found knowledge and/or start a home based business if you so desire. In any event, making a gourmet mom gift basket can be cheap and easy.
